SALTIE Gin shares the story of Australia’s Top End through its sensory journey of history, pungent flavours, nature, people and culture.

The Top End is famous for its host of ‘old salts’ – from those early pioneers who travelled the high seas to settle here, our earliest trading partners the Macassans who sailed over the Timor Sea to fish for trepang, introduced us to tamarind. Darwin’s traditional owners, the Larrakia are known as Saltwater People and our most iconic crocodiles are also known as salties. Distilling the saltiness of the Top End’s tropical coastline with the exotic tastes and aromas inspired from our close Asian neighbours presents the flavour of the Top End – SALTIE GIN.

SALTIE GIN is the brainchild of Darwin’s award-winning Sea Darwin who is known for their harbour history, sunset and turtle sea tours and charters. Their entrepreneurial spirit recognised an opportunity to bring together stories of the Territory with premium, hand crafted spirits influenced by flavours and historical chapters of Australia’s Top End.

The days of the traditional Dry Gin & Tonic now seem behind us. Next level artisan crafted Gin, such as SALTIE, has exploded in popularity. Fused with exotic botanicals, each distillery produces their own unique blends, often reflecting their place of origin.

The new Gin-aissance has not only seen the flood of new labels appearing but also a wave of premium tonic water. Fever-Tree tonic is very complementary to SALTIE – and also a good choice for your classic G &T!

It’s all in the name – SALTIE. The label art gives a nod of recognition to the references that influenced the form of its final design. The livery includes our interpretation of the ‘old salt’ theme, synonymous with Darwin’s history, the Top End’s scaly and iconic saltwater crocodile, the essence of tropical botanicals all composited within the steeped tradition of how premium Gin is presented.

True Darwin-ites relish the sultry, balmy nights of the Wet Season by sitting out on their balcony favourite drink in hand, watching the monsoonal rain and catching the cooling breezes. It gets even better to watch the fury and theatrics of a good tropical storm – for those lucky enough to live near the water, the sounds and smells of the sea add further dimension to the experience. It’s the local way of keeping our spirits up!
