When Darwin Middle School introduced the STEAM curriculum, they invited us to develop a suite of visual tools to communicate what it meant to both internal and external audiences.
While most schools at the time focused on introducing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), which equips students with practical, analytical skills, the STEAM framework brings Arts into the mix. This adds another layer, sparking creativity, boosting problem-solving, and connecting technical concepts to real-world applications.
Students participated in several rounds of focus testing on our concepts and shared valuable feedback to help refine the final result. This empowered them with ‘buy-in’, and they fully supported the rollout of the final suite of communication tools that represented the ‘Holistic Student’.
