What does one do in finding unusual, special Christmas presents for small grandchildren? Write a storybook of course! Former politician, now local council Alderman, Mick Palmer proudly now holds a new mantle of published author.

Local artist Marnie Jay showcased her brilliant talent in illustrating the story of Hurtle the Turtle, and it was our pleasure to bring it all together in print, digital plus some quirky social media posts.

The story regales a serious conversation the author once had with his eldest granddaughter, who was all of two years of age at the time. With heartfelt sincerity, she asked her Pop why he was so round across his tummy. Pop convincingly informed her that some years before he’d swallowed a baby turtle whilst swimming and it had now grown quite large because of all the jellyfish he ate. Seemingly well satisfied with such a logical explanation, the young granddaughter took it upon herself with great authority, to explain this fact to everyone else.
